I have two female cats and they got on heat every 2-3 months. I learned alone how to give them pills to suppress the heat.

I catch them as shown on the video and gently open her mouth, than put the pill as deeper as possible, because if the pill is not deeper in the throat the cats easily spit it.

Danielle thanks for your message. I must admit I am a bit torn about getting a pedigree. I live in New Zealand and I have never had a cat from anywhere other than the SPCA (rescue/shelter organization) before.

We don't have a rescue group such as yours that uses foster homes. I know that around Christmas time there will be plenty of unwanted kittens at the shelter and that they will be put down if no-one adopts them. So I am thinking again about what to do and whether to get the British Blue or not. You have made me re-consider!

Tabby,

Congrats on making the decision to add another member to the family! I'd urge you to reconsider adopting from a breeder, though. With so many cats already waiting for homes in shelters and rescues, you can most certainly find a well adjusted, friendly cat at a facility near you. Rescue groups with a system of foster homes are especially good at raising well adjusted kittens since the kittens spend almost their whole lives until they're adopted in a home with a family. I don't know where in the world you are blogging from, but if you are anywhere near Washington, DC, checkout the kitties up for adoption at www.fancycats.org/cats.asp. Fancy Cats adopted out the largest number of cats in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2007 (more than 1000)!

Also, you don't necessarily need to adopt a female because you have a male at home. Most male cats are so laid back that they don't tend to care who comes and goes (especially if the male was neutered as a kitten, since it didn't have time to develop those hormonal urges to care about other cats in its territory). In most instances, if you introduce the new cat to the old cat correctly (i.e., slowly), you will have a harmonious household in no time!

In any case, good luck with your new baby! I can't wait to see pictures!

Great blog. I haven't actually tried brushing my cats but they love being pet so maybe I can sneak a brush in. I might video log that experience.

These are some really great gift ideas. Another good idea is cat books. There's a really great memoir out now by Linda Mohr about her relationship with her cat, Tatianna. I read it and loved it, and can honestly say that it's a book that any cat lover should own.

We have 3 kitties and they all get along most of the time. You have a great list of info here. My favorite tips are having a place each can go when they need alone time, and the scrathing posts - very important for everyone's happiness.

Wow, thanks so much for the info....now I understand why my shouts never work when they behave "naughty";) and no wonder too when my brother call my feline companions tends to ignore or not hearing to my brother, so sometimes in order to call them my brother use "Reiki connection".
You're most welcome to sneak peak my musings on feline in my blog, see ya around:)
